PBSO deputy accused in domestic battery incidentThe Palm Beach Post, Fla. — Julius Whigham II The Palm Beach Post, Fla.
March 26--A Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputy is facing a criminal charge after he allegedly assaulted a woman during a domestic dispute Monday.
Alex Alfonso was taken into custody on a battery charge. He was released Tuesday under court-ordered supervision. He has been placed on paid leave, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.
An attempt to reach Alfonso for comment was unsuccessful. A telephone message left Wednesday with the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association, the union that represents PBSO deputies, was not immediately returned.
According to a sheriff's report, a woman told investigators she and Alfonso got into an argument that led to physical force and left her with a bloody nose.
A witness told investigators of not seeing the confrontation but hearing the woman scream for help and seeing Alfonso standing over her, the report said.
The report does not say where the incident took place, but PBSO interviewed the woman and witnesses at its field office in suburban Boca Raton.
In 2014, Alfonso was investigated in an off-duty shooting at the Reflections of Boca Del Mar pool in suburban Boca Raton. He told investigators he shot and wounded Anthony Ribero when the man threatened him with a wine bottle.
The Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office investigated and decided not to pursue charges.
