A police officer who brought a stray dog to Dolton Animal Hospital Sunday around noon found several dead dogs inside and many dogs in "various stages of emaciation," according to the Cook County Sheriff's office. The sheriff isinvestigating, said Deputy Chief Michael Anton, after four dead dogs, nine sick dogs and one sick cat were found in the hospital's basement.

According to Monday's publication of the Chicago Tribune , an animal control officer made a grim discovery in the basement of a Dolton, Illinois, veterinary hospital on Sunday. Several dead dogs , as well as dogs who were sick and possibly dying, were discovered inside of the Dolton Animal Hospital on Sunday when a police officer went to the clinic to drop off a stray dog.

The Cook County Sheriff's office is investigating a south suburban animal hospital after four dead dogs were found at the Dolton facility on Sunday afternoon. About 12:30 p.m., Dolton police called the Cook County Sheriff's Animal Crimes Unit about the condition of animals at a care facility in the 15000 block of Lincoln, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.

Two people were killed and at least 29 others - including a 12-year-old boy - were wounded in weekend shootings across the city since Friday night. About 6:50 p.m., Davontae Harrison, 21, was driving in the 3900 block of West Ferdinand when someone opened fire and shot him in the chest, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

A south suburban woman died about three weeks after she was hit by a cab in the Old Town neighborhood on the North Side. Several witnesses told officers they saw a woman run out in to traffic in the 1400 block of North LaSalle at 2:05 a.m. on Aug. 30th, police said.
