The family of a Chicago Police officer killed in March when his vehicle was struck by a van being pursued by Calumet Park police has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the village. David L. Harris, a 10-year Chicago Police veteran, had just ended his shift and was on his way home the night of March 14 when the van struck his car in the 8700 block of South Lafayette Avenue just off the Dan Ryan Expressway.

The mother of four children who died in a Roseland apartment fire earlier this month and her boyfriend have filed separate lawsuits against the apartment building's owner and real estate management company. Shamaya Coleman and her boyfriend, Nathaniel Johnson, separately filed negligence lawsuits Tuesday in Cook County Circuit Court.

The domestic partner of a paid consultant for Tr. Robert Streit is in Cook County Jail after he was arrested on an active warrant for burglary and retail theft, as well as multiple traffic offenses on Aug. 22, reports said.

A 47-year-old woman accused of stealing a diamond from a Rosemont jeweler is the latest employee of a prominent Chicago-based anti-violence program to get locked up in recent years. Stacie L. Winston, an employee of CeaseFire - an arm of Cure Violence - was charged last month with stealing a diamond worth more than $10,000 from Helzberg Diamonds on Dec. 2, according to court records.

The 2010 Neighborhood Recovery Initiative, the subject of a scathing state auditor general's report for mismanagement and misspending, already has been under scrutiny by federal prosecutors in Springfield, the Cook County state's attorney and a legislative commission. The subpoena, dated Aug. 27, was delivered to the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, the state agency that took over NRI, according to agency spokeswoman Cristin Evans.
