According to IDPH Director Nirav Shah, a suburban Cook County resident became ill in mid-January and test results were positive for measles. "This case is Illinois is a reminder of the importance of immunizations," Director Shah said.

A 40-year-old Belvidere man was ordered held on $225,000 bail Friday after authorities say he sexually assaulted a teenage acquaintance to whom he had offered ride home from the Elgin body shop he owns. Marco Fernandez, of the 400 block of Casswell, was charged with criminal sexual assault, a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

A Streamwood man with a lengthy criminal record was ordered held on $1 million bail Monday on charges that he sexually assaulted a teenage girl. Juan Torres, 44, a convicted sex offender from the 700 block of Russet Lane, did not appear in court during the hearing before Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo because he had been hospitalized after an asthma attack, prosecutors said.

A suburban Cook County resident has a confirmed case of measles, but it is not likely linked to the multistate outbreak associated with Disneyland, county and state health officials said Tuesday. The person diagnosed, who officials would identify only as being older than 18, became ill in mid-January, according to a release sent Tuesday from the Illinois Department of Public Health.
