While a man was lying in his bed at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, medicated and waiting for a heart transplant, a nurse entered his room and "initiated unsolicited sexual relations, including intercourse," according to a lawsuit filed Monday. The patient and his wife filed the lawsuit in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging that Advocate Christ Medical Center was negligent in employing the nurse, who "had a propensity to initiate unauthorized physical contact with patients," the lawsuit stated.

An on-duty officer in a squad car has struck and killed a 20-year-old pedestrian in a northwestern Chicago suburb, Wheeling police said. The officer hit the man with his SUV early Sunday, police said.

A 17-year-old boy was killed and at least seven other people were wounded in shootings across the city since Friday night. The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:44 p.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

John L. Wilson was found guilty on all counts Monday in the 2011 stabbing death of 14-year-old Kelli O'Laughlin in her Indian Park Home, Pioneer Press is reporting. The verdict came just two hours after closing arguments wrapped up in the case, which included an outburst from Wilson.

South Chicago suburbs Park Forest and Chicago Heights have renamed two area schools in tribute to President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Those Cook County cities, which comprise School District 163, announced on Monday that Beacon Hill School, grades 4-8, now goes by the Barack Obama School of Leadership and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math , while Forest Trail School, 4-8, has been named Michelle Obama School of Technology and the Arts .

Vivian Maier was a nanny and housekeeper in Chicago who took pictures in her spare time. Those photographs, mostly from the 1950s and 60s, are now considered some of the best street pictures ever taken, but they went undiscovered until two years after her death, in 2011.

Des Plaines police have confirmed the identity of the woman whose body was found in a pond Thursday afternoon outside the Prairie Lakes Community Center. Police identified the woman as 51-year-old Barbara Roache.
